Social justice mediamaking on Sept. 18

Durham-based mediamaker Saleem Reshamwala—aka Kid Ethnic—visits on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Hill Library Fishbowl Forum to talk about his passion for media making and career path.

Reshamwala’s recent awards include an Emmy nomination for his work on implicit bias while at The New York Times, and Best Music Video at the Hip Hop Film Festival in Harlem. He has studied, worked, or hung out in 50 countries.

Free and open to the public, the event is part of the Libraries’ Making Space series which hosts public talks and workshops centered upon gender diversity and inclusion in STEM as it intersects with race, ethnicity, ability, and sexuality.

Reshamwala will also lead a hands-on workshop, “Making Short Media with Meaning,” from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the Hill Library Makerspace. Reshamwala will share his process of making animated gifs for The New York Times, and collaborate with participants to make short stop-motion pieces of their own. Advance registration is required for the workshop, which is only open to NC State students, faculty, and staff.
